As part of teachers' professional development we are focusing on supporting children's social and emotional development. We recently introduced 'The Colour Monster' book which is about different emotions and how to make sense of them. This led to children drawing colour monsters and reflecting on their thoughts and feelings. Talking about emotions has become a part of daily conversation in the centre and beyond.
As a result of the recent fundraising Creche has purchased some new equipment to support children's interest and extend their learning. We have purchased a new 'mud kitchen' some wooden palisades, wooden easels and new wooden houses. The beauty of these wooden resources (made by the The Men's Shed North) is that they can be used to extend children's current interests and as open ended resources the learning opportunities are endless. We were also grateful to receive a donation of a sensory board made by Sunnynook Cub Scouts. All of the items are great provocations for children's thinking and imagination
Thank you to the parents and children who joined our family event yesterday.
Creche is very proud of its multicultural community and grateful that we were able to celebrate Matariki (Maori New Year), and Tanabata (Japanese star festival) together.
Children took pride in sharing their wishes and performing their Matariki Macarena. They took great pride in being able to feed everyone the soup and biscuits they made and a special mention goes out to Bakers Delight who supplied the buns to pair with the soup. Yum!
Thank you to those who made it along to our 'Colour Fun Run' last month. A great time was had by all and we look forward to the next one.
This last week has been a busy one at creche with children making handmade gifts from the heart to celebrate Mother's day. They made natural bees wax honey wraps, finger print pendants and/or the perfect breakfast in bed tray.
A massive thank you to Bunnings for their donations of the breakfast tray materials and for their support. We hope the small gifts acknowledge aroha, reciprocity and relationships.
We have been celebrating and decorating at creche already but the most anticipated event was making the dumplings. Jenni Fox kindly lent her expertise with a tried and true recipe for a delicious treat. Children helped to make these delicious chicken and spinach dumplings today. If you would like to try them at home yourself find the link below and don't forget to ask the children to show you how they did it. www.withthefoxes.nz/homemade-dumplings
Late last year, we managed to have some little furry friends that all the children loved helping look after, watching them hatch and grow under the warm lights. The children absolutely loved this experience, and it was especially nice for those children who do not have the opportunity to have pets at home.
It was a privledge to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Meadowood Community Creche, having been in service to the local community families for all of the 20 years. The children of creche worked to create the beautiful rainbow artwork which was gifted to the Community house to commemorate the occasion. It was great seeing so many of the people and families who have contributed to the creche over the years. Bring on the next 20!
This year at crèche each child got to create their own unique kete/ bags. Using fabric, paint and textured stamps, they chose how they would decorate the fabric. They have had opportunities to use technology like a sewing machine and an over locker to stitch them together. The children have already taken to using and transporting the treasures they find.
Eventually these bags will be used to bring in a variety of vegetables which we all will make into a yummy soup to share with whanau. Keep an eye out for our centre’s celebration to sample the soup for yourself.
